Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking a Controller for its Northfield Metal Products and Paris Spring operations in Waterloo, Ontario. This dynamic position will support the facilities’ Branch Manager and Leadership Team and will be the key financial connection to the Work Furniture Business Unit (WFBU) and the Corporate Headquarters in Carthage, MO.  The qualified candidate will display high emotional intelligence, strong business acumen, outstanding analytical skills, and strong communication skills, both written and oral.  This position reports to the VP, Work Furniture Finance with dotted line to the Northfield/Paris Branch Manager.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of the Northfield/Paris leadership team and work closely with business leadership to maximize Return on Capital Employed (ROCE).  The Controller will bring outstanding analytical skills to bear on root cause analysis and corrective action plans driven by insights from income statement, balance sheet, and operational Key Performance Indicator (KPI) review.
  • Work closely with the local team and corporate organizations to maintain accurate books/records, assure a strong internal controls environment, close the books, report results, and forecast future periods.
  • Assure the financial intelligence of business decisions by effectively balancing financial and operational needs.  Comfortable acting as the financial mentor, coach, and educator for the team.
  • Analyze business cases for capital and other initiatives with focus on clearly and accurately telling the story to secure capital and/or expense funds to support the initiatives.
  • Participate in development of the Northfield/Paris strategic plans and work closely with the branch leadership team to establish the annual operational budget, capital plan, and working capital initiatives. Develop and operationalize profit improvement strategies while driving working capital improvements.

 

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required; MBA, CMA or CPA desired.
  • 5-7 years manufacturing finance experience required; prior experience as a manufacturing controller desired.
  • Good understanding of financial (ERP) systems and IT infrastructure with strong understanding of financial accounting fundamentals.
  • Desire to spend time on the production floor and the insight to connect manufacturing to the financials.

  • Ability and interest to collaborate with manufacturing and business leadership to drive outstanding results for customers and shareholders.  Knowledge of manufacturing, supply chain, purchasing, and materials management.
  • Confident oral and written communication skills.  The humility to know what you don’t know and the conviction to assert a point of view in the absence of complete information.  Adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to convert data to information.
  • Knowledge of Lean and a Continuous Improvement mindset.
