Strategic Account Manager

Date: Feb 26, 2019

Location: Grand Rapids, MI, US

Company: Leggett & Platt Incorporated

Leggett & Platt’s Work Furniture Group is seeking a bright and professional Strategic Account Manager for our Genesis Seating branch in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We’re looking for someone with a keen sensitivity to client needs, and a willingness to become an expert in the account’s business, making necessary connections between the client’s need and our ability to help.

This critical role of helping run a business within the business requires rigor and discipline. The job doesn’t require extensive technical expertise, but you will have to establish credibility, build consensus, and marshal internal resources effectively to further the client relationship.

Developing strategic accounts works best when the SAM takes on a consultative selling role and searches for opportunities to add value for clients by helping them save money, make money, or manage risk.  SAM’s accomplish this in three ways:

  • Respond to an Opportunity:  In this scenario, the opportunity comes directly from the client, usually in the form of a proposal request/quote.
  • Shape an Opportunity:  This opportunity manifests when a solution is either on the client’s radar or is close to being on the client’s radar, but executive leadership has not had time to develop an initiative around the opportunity.
  • Create an Opportunity:  When the account is too busy or overwhelmed by challenges to give innovation and strategic planning proper attention, the client company values a partner that can bring them ideas/solutions, help them understand their challenges, and shape solutions that will help them achieve their goals.

You will drive value for the client through:

  1. Owning the client relationship – developing deep connections and building rapport with key decision makers internally and at the client
  2. Managing projects – leading members of account teams effectively, and ensuring we uphold necessary processes and accountability to account plans
  3. Problem solving – you’ll be involved in helping to craft the best solutions for client problems through basic understanding of technical information
  4. Collaboration – effectively facilitate client teams and break down trust barriers that hinder account growth
  5. Innovation – create compelling and inspiring ideas, thinking expansively about the value we can bring to bear across all brand capabilities
  6. Driving results – accept ultimate responsibility for achieving business goals

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Skill in delivering careful analysis and accurate data to customers
  • Preparation and Presentation of customer quotes
  • Strong Customer Service skills
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

We offer a comprehensive benefits package. While benefits may vary by location, we typically include: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and stock plans, tuition reimbursement, employee discounts and more.

Since 1883, Leggett & Platt (NYSE: LEG) has been creating a wide variety of innovative products that can be found in most homes, offices, and automobiles. Today our growing company consists of more than 22,000 employee-partners in 120 manufacturing facilities located in 18 countries. We’re not just hiring, we’re building a better company.
