Global Director of Logistics

We at Leggett & Platt Automotive are looking for a Global Director of Logistics to join our rapidly growing Automotive Team in Troy, MI.  We are a multi-billion-dollar globally diversified company that designs and manufactures various engineered components and products. Our growing automotive business unit, which exceeds one billion dollars in sales, is comprised of four main product segments with operations on three continents.  Our customers include OEM and Tier 1 automotive companies.

 

In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Procurement & Supply Chain and be responsible for the achievement of logistic excellence in the end-to-end global supply chain.  You will provide strategic vision and leadership to develop and implement strategy, ensuring execution, to manage the movement of raw materials and products within the global supply network – at the lowest possible Cost to Serve.

 

You will work collaboratively with key business partners to ensure effective management, interacting with Planning, Procurement, Finance, and Operations, to identify and meet business requirements at a tactical level.  You will have responsibility for the operational management of third party logistics vendors to perform and deliver the requirements of the role. This role sits on the Global Procurement & Supply Chain Leadership Team with responsibility for providing input to the Supply Chain Strategy, Performance, and Continuous Improvement of the function.

 

You will contribute to and provide on-going leadership related to world class logistic strategies – driving logistic excellence through the implementation of key processes, techniques, tools, and technologies – including process improvements and standardizations.

What you will be doing?

  • Establish and oversee the logistics strategy and best practices for the global logistics processes that enables the physical flow of raw materials and products, as well as the administrative control and information flows.  Own and lead the innovation and continuous improvement agenda for logistics including digital initiatives.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership to establish mutual goals that align with strategic plans.
  • Build and maintain communication channels among all operational groups within the end-to-end supply chain, through information sharing, thought leadership, and tactical and strategic planning.
  • Facilitate an environment for the identification of best practices for logistics execution that may be standardized at a global level and uniformly applied at a regional level.
  • Accountable for establishing programs/partnerships with global 3PLs that can be used by the business to deliver outsourced services for warehousing, transport and international logistics.
  • Responsible for global regulatory and trade compliance, including organizational definition and implementation of processes.
  • Represent and contribute on behalf of the logistics function when the organization engages in strategic projects, business ventures or seeks to expand into emerging and new markets as well as key initiatives surrounding EH&S, and CSR.
  • Represent and contribute on behalf of the logistics function when the organization seeks to rationalize, review or invest in technology platforms that affect the logistics organization directly or indirectly.
  • Develops and implements strategies to attract highly skilled and engaged team members.  Build a succession and development plan for the entire logistics organization that encourages investment in skills, the evolution of capabilities and harvesting of the right competencies and talent for the function.

 

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Finance or another related field.
  • MBA with quantitative background or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered).
  • Previous analytic qualification or experience is essential.
  • 15+ years of work experience in Supply Chain, with an emphasis on transportation and logistics, including the procurement of various domestic and international transportation modes, with at least 10 years of related leadership experience.
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following areas (or combination thereof):
    • Automotive
    • Manufacturing
    • Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Experience working in a global company.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all cross functional teams.
  • Leadership building and development with large teams, domestic and foreign.
  • Strong ability to move between tactical and strategic aspects of business.
  • Proven ability to set direction, clearly articulate a strong point of view and influence others.
